appointments
I want to book an appointment with you. What should I do?
Please e-mail your child's alpha counsellor to book an appointment ahead of time. It is best not to simply show up unannounced as counsellors may not be available to see you based on their schedules that day.
Do you offer translation services during meetings?
Yes, we can arrange for translation services for meetings with you, but it may take a week or two to book a translator ahead of time.
What days and times are you free to meet?
We are only available to meet Monday to Fridays, and are not available on weekends or during school breaks. Most appointments are booked between 8:15am and 2:45pm.
Do I talk to you or the Vice Principal about my concerns?
When in doubt, you can reach out to either of us or both, and we can redirect you as needed. Generally, counsellors can assist with concerns regarding academics, career paths, post-secondary education, social relations, personal health and mental health, while Vice Principals see parents regarding discipline, safety, school placements, questions about classroom teachers and more.
Can you tell me what you talked about with my child?
Our conversations with students are confidential, and it is crucial to uphold strict confidentiality in order to build rapport and maintain trust. If the matter regards safety, however, we are bound by law not to be able to keep things confidential with a student. We try our best to loop parents/ guardians in as necessary, and typically aim to work together with the student regarding communication with the parents/ guardians.

GRADES, ATTENDANCE AND TEACHERS
How do I access my child's report cards?
Student report cards are accessible ONLY through MyEd BC. Please ensure that you have your own parent account, and that when report cards are released, you save/ print a copy of the report card as soon as possible. After some time, report cards are no longer visible on MyEd, so it is important to keep a personal copy for your own records immediately after they get published on MyEd.
How do I contact my child's teachers?
Teacher emails are all listed on the school website.
My child is sick. Do I have to call in?
If your child is sick, we would advise them to receive medical attention from a family doctor, walk-in clinic or emergency services as needed. Please make sure to obtain a medical note from a doctor for documentation, and call the front office as soon as possible to excuse your child from school that day. We appreciate cooperation from parents/ guardians so that we can maintain accurate attendance records in our system.
I have questions about summer school and/or online courses. Can you sign my child up for those classes?
We are happy to provide more information about summer school and online classes, but do not sign students up for these classes outside of Sullivan Heights. Please find links to those schools under "Course Planning".
We have a vacation/ wedding/ special event to attend outside of the country and we will be gone for a few weeks. Can teachers just email class assignments to us while we are away?
The first step in this instance is to go to the front office and fill out a form for a student notifying the school of an extended absence. The form gets reviewed by the student's alpha VP who may be contacting you regarding the form. Please note that teachers at Sullivan Heights are not able to provide online versions of their courses. While it is important to inform all of your child's teachers about the absence ahead of time as much as possible, chances are likely that your child will miss critical lessons and have to catch up on coursework when they return.
