CURRENT COURSES
Can I drop out of my course right now, and go into another course?
We put clear deadlines for course drops on the announcements and on the counselling website. It is your responsibility to find out when the deadline is and abide by them as we typically do not drop/ switch courses past the deadline due to disruptions in the class. Usually we only give the first 2-3 days of a course to allow for necessary withdrawals. Please note that in most cases, changes are not possible as the timetable schedule is very full at Sullivan. For example, we are not usually able to accommodate changes for switching electives, teachers, block orders or semesters.
Should I retake a course if I failed it?
Students must retake courses if they are required for graduation. Please see your counsellor for more details as needed.
Can I retake a course for a better mark?
If you are wanting a higher mark in a course you already took at Sullivan Heights, we recommend doing so through summer school, evening school and/ or online school (through SAIL). Please see your counsellor for more details as needed.
Can I request certain teachers?
We are unable to accommodate specific teacher requests at Sullivan Heights. Please see your counsellor for more details as needed.
Can I have a study/ flex block?
Grade 12s can choose to take a study block if they have enough credits for graduation and are on track to meet graduation requirements. A few select grade 11s who meet strict criteria may qualify for a Study 11 as well. Please see your counsellor for more details as needed.
Can I take a course online and get a study/ spare block in its place?
If you choose to take a course outside of Sullivan Heights, please note that you would typically be adding an additional course to your regular load of 8 classes in-person at Sullivan Heights. Please see your counsellor for more details as needed.

NEXT YEAR'S COURSE SELECTIONS
When do I get to select my courses for next year?
Counsellors or Admin present to all grades 7-11 students in February, after which the MyEd portal opens for about two weeks students to input their requests for the following school year.
How do I get to select my courses for next year?
Grade 8-11 students request their courses through MyEd. Grade 7 students request their courses on paper after counsellor visits to feeder elementary schools in February. All students in grades 7-11 will have instructions provided by an admin or counsellor on the process of registering for the following year's courses through course assemblies.
What if I select my course requests and then change my mind?
We encourage every student to stick to the deadlines posted and advertised. We are often unable to easily make changes past deadlines. Please ensure that you take the time to do the research needed ahead of time so that you can be sure of your decision for course requests as there are no guarantees that changes later may be possible.
How do I know what courses to select for next year?
First, make sure that you take all mandatory courses required for graduation. Second, look at your report card to help guide you on what subject area(s) may be your strength(s). Third, do some research and speak to your parents, guardians, teachers and counsellor to help brainstorm what courses would be best to take next year based on your goals after high school.

ALTERNATE SCHOOLS
Should I take external classes outside of Sullivan Heights (online, summer school or Evening School) to make sure that I have enough credits for graduation?
The graduation program has been designed with some wiggle room, so most students are able to graduate with more than 80 credits. As such, if you are passing your courses at Sullivan Heights, there should not be any concerns about not having enough credits for graduation.
If a retake a course for the second time outside of Sullivan Heights, which course mark will post secondary schools count?
Post secondary schools are able to access all attempts at courses by the deadline, but will count only the course with the higher mark for admission purposes, whether it was the first attempt or second. Please see your counsellor for more details as needed.
Do courses taken at SAIL, summer school or Night School carry the same credits as courses taken at Sullivan Heights?
